NAFDAC warns against use of unprescribed sex stimulants

21 May 2013, 16:04

Benin-  The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Edo on Tuesday in Benin said it sanctioned 16 offenders involved in the sales of unwholesome products in the last four months.

Mr David West, Unit Head, NAFDAC Benin office, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), that NAFDAC seized various brands of unregistered aphrodisiacs (sex stimulant drugs) in the period under review.

West said that 16 out of the 171 activities carried out by the agency during the period under review, were sanctions melted out to offenders, who were involved in the sales of banned, expired, and unregistered products.

He said that as part of its Pharmaco–vigilance exercise, various brands of unregistered sex stimulant drugs used by men were seized from patent medicine shops in the state.

``The sex stimulant drugs are unregistered and cannot be registered because the packaging and presentation is offensive and the drugs are dangerous to health.

``The drugs overwork the heart, which could result to hypertension and sudden deaths. There were also no names and addresses of where these drugs were produced,'' he said.

West listed the names of the drugs to include Sexy Bunny, Man Cool, Le Sexe Cenal and Le Sexe Oral, and advised that the use of such drugs should be discontinued.

He also advised that the use of sex stimulant drugs should be with the recommendation of medical doctors.

He also added that other activities carried out by the agency within the period under review include breast milk substitute advocacy and 2012 NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club (NCSC) Quiz competition.
