NASU ABU joins national warning strike

11 December 2012, 09:01 -

Kaduna - The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) chapter of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) on Monday joined the nationwide strike.

This is contained in a letter signed by the union's Secretary, Malam Mohammed Garba, and sent to ABU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha, shortly after its congress in Zaria.

The letter reads: ``I am directed by the chairman to inform you about the nationwide warning strike via the circular NASU/UV/1/Vol.xx1/123 from our national H/Q.

``The said strike effective date is Dec. 10 to Dec. 17,” it stated, pointing out that the NASU circular was signed by the General Secretary.

It stated that the Universities Trade Group Council met at Port-Harcourt on Oct. 17 and Oct. 18 and adopted the National Executive Council's decision taken at its Asaba meeting on Sept. 20.

The adopted decision stated that ``if by Nov. 30, the Federal Government failed to pay the earned allowances members would proceed on a seven day warning strike from Dec10.
