Port Harcourt - The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has commenced the construction of six major roads across Imo, a statement said in Port Harcourt on Monday.
The statement, issued by the NDDC Head of Public Affairs, Mr Iditoye Abosede, listed the roads as Osina internal roads in Ideato North Local Government Area, Amaudochukwu-Amachikere-Amaegbu road and Umuhu-Okaba-Ihitenasia road in Orsu local government areas respectively.
Others are Amiyi Mission Road in Amiyi-Akah, Umunakara and Umunaka roads in Nkwere Local Government Area. .
It stated that Dr Christian Oboh, the NDDC Managing Director had during the launch of the projects, announced that the commission would soon award more projects so as to fast track development of the region.
Oboh, who was represented by Mr Peter Ezeobi, the Imo representative on the NDDC Board, said the projects would be fully funded to guarantee their early completion.
Oboh called on community leaders and youths in the area to support the commission and the contractors through effective monitoring and maintenance of projects located in their communities.
“The benefitting communities should not hesitate to inform the commission if it has issues with contractors because NDDC will not tolerate indolence and abandonment of projects,” he said.
The traditional ruler of Osina, Eze Ben Igwilo, expressed the hope the projects n would guarantee increased commercial activities in the area.
He thanked the commission for embarking on projects that would reduce the sufferings of rural dwellers.
