Birnin Kebbi -The National Directorate of
Employment (NDE) on Tuesday said it empowered 50 youths on rural
agricultural development as part of its efforts to reduce unemployment
The NDE Coordinator in the state, Alhaji Muhammad Zogirma, made this
disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in
Zogirma said that the beneficiaries were trained in fish farming, poultry, livestock and cattle rearing.
He said that the training was for three months, adding that one month
was spent on theory of agricultural techniques and two months of
attachment for practical knowledge.
He said those trained were expected to be self-reliant and employers
of labour to reduce involvement of youths in crime as well as boost food
The coordinator said that the directorate collaborated with some local governments to make the training effective.
"We collaborated with Kalgo, Jega and Gwandu Local Government Areas, who assisted the trainees,’’ he said.
Zogirma urged the youths to put to use what they were thought,
stressing that the NDE would always work closely with stakeholders to
address the challenges of unemployment in the state.
