NDLEA arrests 158 for drug suspects in Kano

19 April 2013, 11:09

Kano - The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State on Thursday said it arrested 158 suspects for drug-related offences between Janurary and March.

The NDLEA Commander in the state, Garba Ahmadu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that the command had prosecuted 108 persons out of the number at the Federal High Court, Kano.

He said that more than 800 kilogrammes of Indian hemp were seized from the suspects during the period.

Ahmadu said 84 people were rehabilitated and integrated with their families, adding that ``the beneficiaries received counselling at the command’s rehabilitation centre''.

He said the command would continue to raid some of the ``black spots'' within the metropolis to track down suspects.

``We are committed to end illicit drug trafficking and abuse in the society,'' he said.

The commander called on the stakeholders to support  NDLEA in its effort to end drug abuse among the youth in the state.
