NDLEA arrests 2 suspected drug traffickers

19 July 2013, 10:02

Lagos - The National Drug law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it arrested two suspected drug traffickers, while 2.615 kilogrammes of cocaine they concealed inside ceramics meant for interior decoration were recovered.

This is contained in a statement signed by the NDLEA spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju, on Thursday in Lagos and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to him, the agency made the discovery and arrest at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos when the agency’s operatives broke the ceramic ornaments during routine check.

"Two suspected drug traffickers who were arrested with the illegal importation from Brazil said that they could not resist the offer made to them by their sponsor.

"The cocaine was industrially concealed inside ceramics and buttons, by the suspects (named withheld) who are 38 and 45 years old, respectively.

"Both suspects were found to have concealed cocaine in their luggage on their way from Brazil.

"The 38 years old man had 1.435kg of cocaine hidden in ceramics and buttons, while the 45 years old packed 1.180kg of cocaine also in ceramics.

"They have given us useful information and investigation is in progress,” Ofoyeju said.

The spokesman quoted the suspects as saying that their sponsors promised to give them 10 000 dollars, (N1.5 million) and N1million, respectively.
