The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has convicted 743 persons across the country for drug-related offences between January and May 2012, an official has said.
The agency’s spokesman, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, gave the figure in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday.
He said that the convictions included those of 97 persons in Kano State, 97 in Kebbi, 59 in Adamawa, 56 in Plateau, 42 in Osun and 39 in Abuja.
He added that 34 persons were convicted in Lagos State, 29 in Niger, 27 in Cross River, 27 in Jigawa, 25 in Gombe and 25 in Oyo State.
Ofoyeju said that the other convictions included those of 24 persons in Kaduna State and 21 in Akwa Ibom.
He hailed the judiciary for ensuring justice.
`` No infringement shall go unpunished,” he said.
