NDLEA docks two business men

31 January 2013, 07:41

Lagos - The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Wednesday arraigned two businessmen, Cyprian Onyebuchi and Tony Ebi, charged with trafficking in illicit drug.

Onyebuchi and Ebi are standing trial on a four-count charge of conspiracy, production, possession and distribution of a restricted drug, Metaphetamine, before Justice Saliu Saidu of a Federal High Court in Lagos.

The prosecutor, Mr Femi Oloruntoba told the court that the accused were apprehended in September 2012, by a team of the NDLEA officials following a tip off.

He said that between June and December 2012, they were reported to be engaged in the illegal production of Metaphetamine, a drug similar to cocaine, which they distributed for illegal sale.

The prosecutor said that the accused were apprehended on Taiwo Martins Street, Lekki, where they allegedly engaged in the production of the narcotic substance.

He said that the alleged offence contravened sections 11(b), (c) and (d) of the NDLEA Act, 2004.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Saidu granted the accused bail in the sum of N5 million each with one surety each in like sum.

He ordered the accused to be remanded at the Ikoyi prisons pending the perfection of their bail conditions.

Saidu then adjourned the case to March 11 and 13 for mention.
