Kebbi - The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency in Kebbi on Monday launched a campaign to dissuade youths from illegal consumption and drug abuse, especially during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Mr Okon Ulo, the state commandant of the agency, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi that the campaign would be conducted in nine of its offices.
Ulo said the agency’s personnel had been directed to raid black spots and arrest drug offenders.
He said the agency had succeeded in ridding such spots in the metropolis of youths who engage in drug abuse, adding and apprehending dealers and suppliers.
"Some of the misguided youths that were arrested were released after counseling.’’
Ulo said the raids would be sustained, and that the agency would continue to educate the youths on dangers of drug abuse.
According to him, the apprehension of suppliers and users had reduced the rate of drug abuse in the state.
The commandant urged parents and guardians to send wayward children to the agency for counselling and rehabilitation.
