NEMA records 283 208 flood victims

Yola - No fewer than 283 208 persons were affected by flood disasters in the North-East zone last year, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement, signed by Abdulkadir Ibrahim , the North-East Information Officer of NEMA, said 105 811 victims were camped and catered for in 81 Internally Displaced People's camps (IDPS).

He said the camps were managed by the agency in collaboration with state emergency management agencies (SEMAs).

Accordingly, other stakeholders, such as Red Cross Society, in the six states in the zone were involved in the exercise, the statement said.

It said that the zonal office of NEMA also delivered relief materials to victims of communal crisis in Ibbi ,Taraba.

The statement said the agency in conjunction with Zaramat Global Consultancy organised workshops on disaster management for the people as part of protective measures .
