Lagos - Workers in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) on Thursday gave a 21-day ultimatum to the agency’s management to pay their arrears of salary or face an indefinite strike.
The workers gave the ultimatum in a statement they issued in Lagos under the aegis of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE).
The statement was signed by the AUPCTRE’s General Secretary, Phillip Agbonkonko.
The workers said that the management refused to pay them 26.68 per cent of their salaries from July to December, 2011.
They noted that the Ministry of Labour and Productivity had initiated a meeting between the Ministry of Aviation, Accountant-General of the Federation’s Office, Budget Office and National Income, Salary and Wages Commission to resolve the issue.
They said that they had written fruitless letters to remind the management to pay the arrears.
