NLC endorses constitution review process

Abuja - Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has thrown its weight behind the on-going constitution review process by Nigeria’s national assembly.

NLC President ,Comrade  Abdulwahed Omar who spoke today at the flag off of the House of Reps Peoples session on the review of the constitution hinted  that  that the NLC will fully participate in all the sessions at the 360 federal constituencies where the public sessions will hold this Saturday, 10th November across the country. 

The NLC has already sent names of its representatives to the Adhoc Committee of the House of Representatives on the Review of the 1999 Constitution.

While advocating for local government autonomy in the new constitution,  he said that the NLC was already working on a formal presentation to the committee on areas of concern and interest to the Congress.

Omar specifically mentioned the issue of Minimum Wage as an item congress wants included in the new constitution.

In addition to this, he said congress wants the new constitution to include social security issues, review of removal of immunity clause and electoral reforms.

The NLC President who was accompanied to the ceremony by members of the National Administrative Council as well as representatives of Local Government and Municipal Council workers from 27 African countries commended the House of Representatives for taking the unique initiative in engaging Nigerians in producing a truly Nigerian constitution.
