NPA orders investigation of fire at MRS jetty

10 January 2013, 11:13

Lagos -  The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Malam Habib Abdullahi, on Wednesday ordered investigation into the oil barge fire at the MRS Jetty, Tin Can Island Port, Lagos.

A statement by Chief Michael Ajayi, General Manager, Public Affairs of  NPA, said Abdullahi gave the instruction during his visit to the scene.

The fire occurred on Wednesday morning. It said the incident was promptly curtailed by the NPA Fire Service and the Marine Department.

``As at the time of the visit to the scene by the managing director, reports revealed that no life was lost,’’ the statement said.

It said investigation would be conducted by the Health Safety and Environment Department, in conjunction with Marine and Fire Service, to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the incident.

The statement said the managing director appealed to stakeholders, especially port users, to go about their normal businesses because the blast did not affect port operations.
