NSCDC arrests 4 suspected vandals

21 January 2013, 16:02

Ebonyi - The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ebonyi Command on Monday arrested four men for allegedly vandalising a transformer in Oriuzor, Ezza-North Local Government Area.

Parading the suspects in Abakaliki, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Nwali, said the suspects were arrested by the armed squad of the corps following a tip-off.

He said that the corps mounted surveillance in the area, following reports of incessant vandalism on transformers in the community and subsequently arrested the suspects.

Nwali said the corps had concluded investigations on the matter and would soon arraign the suspects.

He assured the people of the preparedness of the corps to curb the activities of those sabotaging government efforts to ensure regular supply of electricity.

However, one of the suspects denied involvement in the alleged vandalism but said that they were at the scene of the incident to replace a damaged fuse in the transformer when the men of the corps arrested them.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that items allegedly recovered from the suspects include cables, safety belt and transformer fuse.
