NSCDC arrests fraudsater

01 March 2013, 12:00

Katsina - The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina State has arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly defrauding about 60 graduates by pretending to secure employment for them.

Parading the suspect before newsmen on Thursday in Katsina, the NSCDC Commandant, Alhaji Musa Mai-Zabura, said the suspect was arrested at a hotel in Katsina following a tip off.

He said the fraudster confessed that he used to collect between N80,000 and N100,000 from a person to secure him/her a job in the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Prisons Service or the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Mai-Zabura said the suspect also told the NSCDC that the people he defrauded came from Katsina, Kwara, Kogi Lagos, Oyo and Niger states as well as the FCT, Abuja.

He said the suspect would be prosecuted after investigation to serve as deterrent to others.

The commandant advised the general public to be cautious while dealing with people so as not become victims of such crimes.

Mai-Zabura also appealed to the people to expose the activities of criminals and vandals in the state in the efforts to combat crimes.
