NSCDC raids house, finds 70 Jeri-cans of petrol

Gwagwalada - The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), working on a tip-off, raided a residence in Gwagwalada, Abuja on Wednesday and found 70 Jerry-cans of petrol in it.

Mr Michael Enogela, Gwagwalada Divisional Officer of NSCDC who led the raid, said ``the house belonged to one Yahaya, a kingpin of vandalism in Gwagwalada.’’

Enogela said that Yahaya was however not at home when the team came.

"The intelligence report before us is that some individuals were seen siphoning petrol from the pipeline and conveying the product in Jerry-cans in vehicles.

"We have been on ground for the past three days working on the report and this morning we were able to discover the house of a kingpin who has been accommodating product of vandalism," he said.

Enogela said that NSCDC would arrest the suspect to serve as deterrent to other vandals in the area.

He said that two suspects; Emeka Ikwunna and Jacob Aniekan were also arrested and currently in NSCDC custody.

He explained that Ikwunna was arrested with three Jerry-can while Aniekan was arrested with six Jerry-cans of petrol suspected to be products of vandalism.

Ikwunna denied being a vandal but said that he was a business man who deals in engine oil and petrol.

Aniekan told newsmen that the six Jerry-can of petrol found in his possession were bought from a filling station.
