IIorin- The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara on Friday said it had arrested a suspected vandal and recovered 130 jerry cans of petrol syphoned from a damaged NNPC pipeline.
The State Commandant of the corps, Gana Yerima, told newsmen in Ilorin that some officials of the command recovered the jerry cans during an operation at about 12 a.m. on Friday.
He said the jerry cans were already loaded in a vehicle at Kankan village, Asa Local Government Area of the state.
Yerima said the suspected vandals engaged in a shootout with NSCDC officials before fleeing from the scene, abandoning their tools.
The commandant said a 40-year-old indigene of Aiyekale in Asa Local Government Area was arrested at the scene of the incident.
He said cutlasses, a knife, locally made gun, torchlight, cell phone and cartridges were recovered from the suspect.
Yerima added that the command was intensifying investigation with a view to arresting the remaining suspects.
He advised residents, especially community leaders in areas where NNPC pipelines were, to always monitor the activities of vandals.
