NSCDC to plant 12 000 trees in Jigawa

10 April 2013, 14:33

Dutse - The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in Jigawa, said it had concluded arrangements to plant 12,000 trees to combat desertification in the state.

Muhammad Gidado, the state NSCDC Commandant, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Wednesday.

Gidado said the exercise would be conducted across the 27 Local Government Areas, adding that the initiative was part of the command’s Corporate Social Responsibility in the state.

He said each officer of the command would plant 10 trees and he would be responsible for their care.

According to him, the gesture is to show the general public that the duty of the Corps did not stop at arresting offenders.

Gidado said that the NSCDC was always ready to contribute to the development of the state and the nation.

He advised the people to avoid indiscriminate felling of trees in the state to avoid desertification.
