Naval partnership with police to curb terror

Abuja - The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas, has pledged tight security in the country's maritime routes in order to thwart terror attacks.

The pledge follows a meeting between Ete-Ibas and Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase.

The leaders have met at the Force Headquarters in Abuja to form partnerships in securing the sea ways of the nation.

Ete-Ibas told Arase he appreciated the existing cooperation between the Nigeria Police and the Nigerian Navy.

"This synergy becomes imperative as both organizations are involved in the protection of lives and property on land and sea," Ete-Ibas said.

He further requested for capacity building of officers and men of the two agencies on exchange programme, while soliciting for speedy prosecution of maritime cases.

Meanwhille, Arase said the force intended to re-brand the marine police so as to checkmate crimes at sea. - CAJ News
