New law bans children under 12 from house help

Abuja - A new law has been passed that bans children under 12 years from doing domestic house help, those that do not comprehend with the law will spend two to ten years in jail, Punch reported.

The law called, trafficking in Persons Enforcement and Administration Act 2015, which was passed by President, Goodluck Jonathan. 

The Director-General of the National Agency for Prohibition of Traffic in Person, Beatrice Jedy-Agba expresses the new law will impose tougher penalties on human trafficking offenders.

Children under 12 will now not suffer from abuse and exploitation, those who do not respect the law will be jailed for not less than two year. 

Agba further expressed that alleged cases of trafficking of children in refugee camps have been ruled out but if there would be a case then a full investigation will be conducted.
