Abuja - The wife of the Niger State Governor, Dr Amina Abubakar Bello, has appealed to parents to constantly immunise their children to enhance academic performance.
She identified lack of de-worming of school age children as a major factor militating against their performance in school.
The governor’s wife stated this after flagging off the sensitization of de-worming of school age children organized by the Nigerian Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists (NAHAP) in Minna.

She said the infestation was one of the reasons some children do not perform well in school and it makes them ill and slow down the rate at which they participated in school activities.
“The infestations are chronic and wide spread, it causes anemia, malnourishment, impairment of mental and physical development and limits the children's participation in school” Bello said.
She added that de-worming of children in schools should be encouraged as it will reach a higher number of children adding that it is easier as it can be administered by teachers without having to spend on health workers.
Bello commended NAHAP for initiating the program in schools while urging parents to allow their children benefit from the gesture.
