Abuja - A senior Imo State official bemoaned the illiteracy in information and communications technology (ICT) among Nigeria's political leaders.
Speaking at a launch of an ICT centre that a local financial institution helped build at a tertiary institution in Owerri, the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Benjamin Uwajumogu, described as "shameful" the "very low literacy" in that sector among the politicians.
“It is a shame that as a nation, we are yet to identify the importance of ICT. Most of our political leaders are ICT illiterate,” he said.
He said from his observations, many political leaders, both appointed and elected, were not literate in either computer technology or internet usage.
The speaker thus urged the government to embark on awareness programmes to promote the adoption of ICTS at government level.
