Nigeria marks Global Handwashing Day

15 October 2015, 17:06Emeka Okonkwo

Abujac -  As Nigeria joins the world in commemorating Global Handwashing Day (GHD), members of the public have been urged to regularly wash their hands with soap and water to curb disease.

The Pharmaceutical  Society of Nigeria (PSN), and Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health (PSN-PACFaH) made the call.

“It is imperative that people clean their hands with water, very few use soap to wash their hands," said Programme Director of PSN/PACFaH, Femi Adeseun.

"Washing is not only simple and inexpensive, but remarkably, handwashing with soap can dramatically cut the number of young children who get sick.”

GHD is a campaign to motivate and mobilize people around the world to improve their handwashing habits by washing their hands with soap at critical moments throughout each day.

It takes place on October 15 of each year.

The campaign is dedicated to raising awareness of handwashing with soap as a key approach to disease prevention. - CAJ News
