Nigerian killed in Irish jail

28 June 2013, 09:00Augustine Osayande

Abuja -   The House of Representatives condemned the killing of a Nigerian inmate who was serving a life sentence in Ireland.

Chair of Committee on Diaspora, Abike Dabri-Erewa, described the killing of Godwin Udechukwu, who was in jail for killing his Jamaican wife, as ‘pathetic.’

She said that the House would intervene in the matter to ensure justice was done in the case.
“If we ignore such a case, it will set a precedent.

This could happen again in Ireland or elsewhere in the world.  We need to condemn this act in its entirety.

"This kind of thing is happening to Nigerians all over the world and time has come for all stakeholders to join forces to fight this ugly development,” she said after interacting with relatives of the deceased.

Relative of the deceased, Kennedy Moya, told the parliamentarians Udechukwu was in jail for killing his Jamaican wife with a hammer following a domestic dispute.

Inmates in a Dublin jail reportedly assaulted him for more than 30 minutes. He died from stab wounds.
