Nyako pardons 24 prisoners

10 October 2013, 16:20

Yola - Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa has approved the release of 24 inmates of the Yola Prison as part of  the country's 53rd independence anniversary.

This is contained in a statement by Ahmad Sajo, Press Secretary to the Governor, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

The statement said: "The release of the prisoners by the governor was in exercise  of the power conferred on him by the 1999 Constitution as amended."

According to the statement, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Justice, Sulaiman Mohammed, urged those released not to indulge in acts capable of returning them to the prison.

" Any of you found indulging in any bad act and found in the prison again will not have pardon as the governor may have no mercy on  you again."

It urged the people of the state, irrespective of their differences, to live in peace with one another for the development of the state and the country.
