Obasanjo establishes foundation to fight health challenges

13 May 2014, 07:43

Dutse - Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said on Monday in Dutse that he had established a Foundation to fight some health challenges in Nigeria and Africa.

Obasanjo told the media that the Foundation was established to address non communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cancer, sickle cell and malnutrition in Africa.

The media reports that the pilot project of the Foundation was inaugurated by Obasanjo on Monday at a Primary School in Kudai, Dutse in Jigawa.

He said the Foundation would also promote girl child education in Nigeria.

According to him, girl child education is paramount to the foundation because of the role of women in the society.

The former president said that the Foundation would give special attention to youth unemployment, adding that unemployment was not only a problem in Nigeria but all over Africa.

"Today, about 60 percent of our youths are unemployed; these people are either wholly unemployed or partially employed.

"If we do not pay attention to this problem, we are all sitting on a keg of gun powder," he said.
