Abeokuta - The Ogun Command of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday said it had arrested 49 suspected vandals since December 2012.
The spokesman of the command, Kareem Olanrewaju, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta.
According to him, all the suspects have been arraigned before the Federal High Court, Abeokuta.
He said the suspects were charged for offences ranging from pipeline vandalism, illegal dealing and conspiracy to theft of petroleum products.
“All the suspects had appeared before the Federal High Court, Abeokuta; some have been released on bail while others are still remanded in prison custody.
“The achievement notwithstanding, we shall not rest until we fight oil theft and vandals to a standstill.
``Vandalism is gradually reducing now and the command has deployed more personnel to safeguard pipelines and other government properties in accordance with the corps’ mandate,” he said.
He also said that the command had mobilised more personnel to check the activities of kidnappers in some areas of the state.
