Ogunbambo faces arrest for skipping trial

16 May 2014, 20:06Augustine Osayande

Abuja - A warrant of arrest has been issued against Oluwaseun Ogunbambo, who is standing trial in a case of forgery and obtaining N610 million by false pretence.

This follows his continued failure to appear in court to answer to the charges he is facing.

Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Rotimi Oyedepo, informed the Lagos State High Court, sitting in Igbosere about the continued absence of Ogunbambo from court on three previous sessions.

He reminded the court that Ogunbambo’s counsel, at a previous session, promised to bring him to court but failed to fulfill his promise.

He thus appealed to the court to issue a bench warrant on him.

However, Ogunbambo’s counsel, Mobolaji Akintunde appealed to Justice Adebisi Akinlade to give him more time to bring his client to answer the charges preferred against him.

“My Lord, I am sorry to tell the court that we are unable to get in touch with the defendant, we sent several mails and made phone calls to the defendant, some are undelivered, even the intermediary between him and us, we have not been able to reach him,” he said.

The court ruled against the plea.

The case has been adjourned to June 26.
