Abuja - Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has called on members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities to suspend their strike, Vanguard reports.
She made the appeal at a private university, Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu in Osun State where she was conferred with honorary degrees alongside Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi Lamido.
She commiserated with the union over the death of its former chairman, Professor Iyayi Festus. She, however, appealed to the striking lecturers to consider the plight of the Nigerian students and return to the classrooms.
Academic activities in various institutions have been brought to a halt since July 1 over the inability of the federal government to implement the 2009 agreement it had with ASUU.
