Ondo creates 3 000 jobs

16 October 2012, 10:09

Ondo - The Ondo State Government said on Monday that it created 3,000 jobs for unemployed youths through the Fadama III Project Youth Empowerment Scheme.

Mr. Ademola Olorunfemi, the Commissioner for Agriculture, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Akure that the programme empowered 750 youths in Supare, Akungba and other communities in Akoko South-West Local Government Area.

Olorunfemi said N65 million was released to 39 youth groups under different economic interests for implementing various agricultural ventures.

He said youths on the platform of different Fadama-user groups were engaged in agricultural production, such as fishery, poultry, nurseries  as well as oil palm and cassava processing.

The commissioner said the state government had paid its annual counterpart fund for the project and thereby enabled many to benefit.

Olorunfemi thanked traditional rulers in fadama communities  for making  land available for the youths and urged the beneficiaries to use the resources judiciously.

He said that evaluation and monitoring of the activities of various fadama youth programmes would be carried out to give reward successful groups.
