Osun set for massive agricultural produce

06 July 2012, 13:30

Osun - Osun Government says it is set for massive agricultural produce to ensure food security.

Mr Segun Bada, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research, Planning and Policy implementation, said this in Abuja on Friday.

He said that the government was not only going to empower the farmers for bumper harvest, but would also create the enabling environment for them to sell their produce in Lagos.

``We have plans to build strong storage at Dagbolu in the state, where all farmers will bring their produce to and transport them to different designated locations in Lagos state,” he said.

Bada further said the state was constructing roads in the rural areas to enhance rural and urban movement for the people and boost their social and economic activities.

He added that government would transport the farm produce by rail to Lagos at a free cost to the farmers.

The Special Adviser said that government would also buy the produce from the farmers in Lagos and sell to consumers at heavily subsidised rates.

He expressed the hope that the effort of the state government would lead to increased Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state.
