Osogbo - Mr Sunday Akere, the Osun Commissioner for Information and Strategy, has warned residents against dumping refuse in rivers.
Akere, who gave the admonition while speaking with newsmen in Osogbo on Wednesday, said the warning was imperative as the heavy rains predicted by meteorologists had begun.
The commissioner noted that the state government had embarked on dredging of rivers and culverts in all parts of the state to allow free flow of water ways.
According to Akere, dredging is ongoing in some major rivers in Osogbo, Ilesa and Ikirun to ensure that no flood disaster is recorded in the state.
Akere called on residents of the state to cultivate the habit of using refuse vans purchased by the government to dispose off their wastes rather than drop them in waterways.
The commissioner said arrangements were in top gear to provide more waste vans that could reach every nook and cranny of the state.
