Ibadan - Police in Oyo State on Tuesday said it has commenced the arrest of motorcyclists carrying more than one passenger in the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adekunle Ajisebutu (DSP), and made available in Ibadan.
Ajisebutu said the development became necessary following the recent arrest of some suspected criminals using motorbikes for robbery operations in the state.
"The command has embarked on intensive stop-and-search during which any motorcyclist that carries more than one passenger would be arrested, whether private or commercial.

"This is part of efforts to curb crimes being perpetrated by criminals and other hoodlums operating on motorbikes in the state.
"This action becomes necessary following intelligence report at our disposal and recent arrest of some criminals, using motorbikes for robbery operations," he said.
Ajisebutu, however, warned members of the public, using motorcycles, either as private or commercial to desist from carrying more than one person at a time.
He assured all law abiding residents in the state of adequate protection, saying “the command is determined to make the state safe for socio-economic activities to strive."
