PHCN cable electrocutes policeman, teenager

Abeokuta - Two persons a teenager and a policeman were on Sunday electrocuted by an PHCN cable that fell down at a constructions site near Government House in Oke-Igbein, Abeokuta.

The PHCN Public Affairs Manager, Abeokuta District, Mr Richard Oyewole, who confirmed the incident on Monday, said the organisation was investigating the issue.

"I have contacted some of our field officers, like you know, yesterday was Sunday. If construction companies are working, they  normally request for outage.

"We are still investigating the incident. We are going to make announcement on the issue soon," he said.

A 17-year old, identified as Moses, was scavenging at the site, when he was electrocuted, while his guardian, a policeman, Mr Sunday Joseph, was also electrocuted when he rushed to the scene to save him.

The spokesperson of the state Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident and commiserated with the families of the deceased.

"The Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye, prayed for the repose of the deceased and for God to grant their family the  fortitude to bear the loss," he said.
