Abuja - The Kano State Government has
announced plans to establish partnerships to empower women.
Such alliances with the Department
for International Development (DFID), Dangote Foundation
and other notable development partners would ensure women learnt techniques of
self reliance for sustainable development.
State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Barrister
Zubaida Damakka Abubakar, confirmed the planned partnerships.
She said forging such collaboration became imperative in
the quest to empower women to stand on their feet.

DFID, Dangote Foundation and other prominent development
partners were major edifices that can be relied upon to support the self
reliance initiative for sustainable development, she said
"Many government agencies have immensely benefitted
from their active support," she said.
The commissioner added that the programme is a major
cardinal thrust of the current administration to accord women the empowerment
leverage to sustain the drive for establishing small scale businesses as a
way of becoming self reliant.
"My ministry is willing to spread its tentacles
in co-opting women in the rural areas to
benefit from the initiative," said Abubakar.
