Lagos – Four pastors from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the country’s second-largest church, are under investigation for allegedly duping landowners of N700 000 000 (more than $4 million.)
The incident allegedly occurred last week.
While the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) could not provide further details, it confirmed a probe had been opened.
“We are investigating the matter. The outcome of our investigation will determine whether we will charge them to court or not,” EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Ewujarhe, said.
He named the four pastors as Peter Imonhinoen, Emi Adeola, Cosmos Mbanu and Sunday Adeagbo.
Ewujarhe also confirmed that the pastors were initially invited to the EFCC office in Abuja for questioning but have been released on administrative bail.
The investigation comes a week after two pastors of the Christ Evangelical Church were sentenced to three years imprisonment by a Lagos High Court after they obtained N5 million from some church members under false pretence.
