Kaduna - A group of youths chasing a pick pocket created confusion on the Ahmadu Bello way in Kaduna on Sunday, as innocent residents ran for cover for fear of fresh crisis.
The panic was created when commuters started running in various directions for safety, suspecting the eruption of another crisis.
Residents, who ran towards a Police Barracks on the Ibrahim Taiwo Road, however, could not say exactly the cause of the panic..
Commercial bus drivers were seen discharging their passengers mid-way into their destinations as they also joined in the race for safety.
A police officer who joined others in the race, however, told NAN she had no time to find out the reason for the panic.
``I don't know ooh!! I just sighted people running and I also joined them. I don't even know if I am running towards danger or to safety,’’ the officer who pleaded anonymity said.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Command, DSP Balteh Abdulrasaq, described the panic as a false alarm.
Abdulrasaq said that the incident was triggered when a pick pocket was pursued from the busy Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gummi market, and people mistook it for another breakdown of order.
The spokesperson assured residents of the protection of the police and advised them to go about their normal business.
He advised the residents to report security threats to the command.
