Kebbi - Aliyu Yelwa, the pioneer Chairman of Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), on Monday, died in hometown of Yauri in Kebbi State at the age of 78.
This is contained in a statement signed by FRC’s Acting Chairman, Victor Muruako, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The statement quoted Muruako as saying “the FRC regrets to announce the death of its pioneer Chairman, Aliyu Yelwa, OON, at the age of 78.’’
He said that Yelwa, who died on Monday, had already been buried in accordance with Islamic rites, adding that the third-day Islamic prayer would hold on Wednesday.
Yelwa, was appointed Chairman of FRC in 2008 and served out his tenure in December 2013.
He also served as Executive Director, Management and Staff Services, Central Bank of Nigeria from 1979 to 1988.
The deceased served on many boards at both federal and state levels during his life time.
Meanwhile, a condolence register had been opened at the Commission Headquarters, Asokoro, Abuja.
