Plateau leader bemoans communal clashes

18 September 2015, 17:16

Plateau - A Plateau State legislator has expressed shock and dismay over violent attacks on Kadunu village of Plateau State.

The Member representing Barkin-Ladi and Riyom of Plateau State Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Istifanus Dauda Gyang, decried the skirmishes that led to the loss of many lives.

“I condemn the wanton destruction of lives and property in strong terms and express my heartfelt condolences to the entire people  of Gindiri Chiefdom,” Gyang said.

The lawmaker said no individual or group had a justification to invade another community to kill people.

“This ugly development is no doubt a  major setback on our quest for peace in Plateau State," he said.

"All well meaning citizens, community leaders and those that are leaders by virtue of privilege, tradition or religious calling must rise to the challenge of ending these serial attacks on our communities,” Gyang added.

He called on the law enforcement agents to fish out perpetrators of  violent attacks on the Plateau and bring them to book.

“Evil is evil  and must not be tolerated in any form or context,” he said.

It was reported that 17 people were killed and 300 others displaced when unknown gunmen attacked the community last Wednesday.
