Police arraign engineer, security guard for diesel theft

Abuja - The police on Thursday arraigned Jonathan Ajufo, an engineer and Okechukwu Uwazuruike, a security guard in a Wuse zone 2 senior magistrates’ court in Abuja for theft.

The accused persons, who were working with Invent Media Company, were alleged to have conspired and stole 230 litres of diesel belonging to their employer.

The prosecutor, Oturom Urom, of legal section, FCT Police Command, told the court that one Grace Duruke of the same company reported the matter at Wuse police station, Abuja, on Sept. 30.

He said it was discovered during investigation that the accused persons sold the stolen diesel to one Hyellamanda Ezekiel at N20,000.
Urom said that the offence contravened Section 288 and punishable under Section 97 (1) of the Penal Code.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge against them and the Senior Magistrate, Chukwuemeka Ubani , granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety each in like sum.

Ubani then ordered that the surety must be a civil servant above level 4 and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the matter until Nov. 2.
