Police arrest 17 suspects over communal clash

11 April 2013, 07:20

Gombe - The Police in Gombe has arrested 17 persons following Friday’s communal clash between Waja and Dadiya ethnic communities in Gombe.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Sule, told newsmen in Gombe on Wednesday that initially 14 suspects were arrested and later three other suspects were added.

The police boss said that items recovered from the suspects are six guns and one pistol.

Sule said that the police were still investigating the incident, adding that as soon as investigations were completed, the suspects would be charged to court.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that two persons were on Friday killed in communal clashes between the Dadiya and Waja ethnic groups in Bambam town and Maitunku village in Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe.

NAN gathered that the crisis was triggered by the killing of a man in Maitunku village earlier in the week.
