Police arrest 30 suspects during flashpoints raid in Anambra

06 August 2015, 06:37

Onitsha - The police in Anambra on Wednesday arrested 30 suspected criminals at various flashpoints in Idemili North Local Government Area as it commenced massive raid.

Disclosing this to newsmen, the Divisional Police Officer of Ogidi Division, Hassan Musa, said that the raid was to assist Governor Willie Obiano's efforts to rid Anambra of criminals.

"We will not rest on our oars until we get rid of these undesirable elements.

"Some of the arrested suspects include commercial motorcycle riders operating beyond 7 p.m. without headlights in notorious spots.

"Others were caught at various flashpoints around 11 p.m. with no identifiable mission," Musa said.

He noted that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations.

Reacting to the arrests, an Onitsha-based legal practitioner, Patrick Agbata, commended the police for the raid.

Agbata recalled that criminals held the entire communities in Idemili North hostage until Gov. Obiano came to their rescue.

He expressed optimism that with the concerted efforts of the police and other security agencies, the crime rate in the state would continue to go down.
