Police arrest 4 robbery suspects in Zamfara

06 March 2013, 16:05

Gusau - The Zamfara Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers and recovered 57 livestock.

Its spokesman, DSP Lawal Abdullahi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Gusau that two of the suspects had been terrorising parts of the state for long.

Abdullahi stated that 32 cows and 25 sheep were recovered from two of the suspects, who were said to specialise in cattle rustling.

He said that the other two suspects, were arrested along Anka-Daki Takwas-Gummi road, shortly after they had robbed one Bashir Musa, a commercial motorcyclist.

According to him, the suspects were traced to a forest near Anka, where three motor cycles, machetes, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons were recovered.

``We believe that the two suspects are responsible for the incessant robbery attacks on the highway,'' Abdullahi said.

He advised those that lost their cows and sheep to report to the command to identify and collect them.

The spokesman said that the suspects would be prosecuted as soon as investigations were concluded.

He attributed their arrest to the massive campaign against crime launched by the command and the support of the general public.
