Police arrest 5 suspected armed robbers

27 January 2013, 16:53 -

Lagos - The police in Lagos State arrested five suspected armed robbers and recovered vehicles, arms as well as ammunition in the last four days.

A reliable source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos that the suspects were currently undergoing investigations by the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

The source said that two of the five suspects were females, who claimed to be girlfriends of the other suspects.

He said that the two ladies claimed that they were ignorant of their boyfriends’ criminal activities.

The source said that policemen from Ejegun Police Division arrested the suspects on Jan. 23, shortly after they allegedly invaded one house and stole four cars.

One locally made double-barrel gun, two cartridges and four cars were recovered from the suspects.

"The robbers are among the deadly armed robbers terrorising the good people of Lagos," the source said.

Meanwhile, SP Abba Kyari, the Officer-in-Charge of SARS, who confirmed the suspects’ arrest, said that they were currently being interrogated by the squad.

He said that as soon as the investigations were concluded, the suspects would be charged to cour.
