Uyo - Akwa Ibom Police Command on Thursday said it arrested four men for allegedly vandalising electric cables and other accessories on Abak-Ikot Ekpene Road.
Briefing newsmen in Uyo, the Commissioner of Police, Umar Gwadabe, said that the suspected vandals were arrested following intelligence gathering.
According to Gwadabe, two heads of complete armoured cables and accessories, one brown hand-saw, one screwdriver and two Nokia cell phones have been recovered from the suspects.
“Other items were a Mack truck with registration number XB 421 NGK, Toyota Corrola car with registration number AA 256 SKP and a Nissan Primera car with registration number BMT 194 AA," he said.
The commissioner, who was represented by his Personal Assistant, ASP Onyeka Orji, said the suspects also had a bag containing documents from a transport company in Aba, Abia.
He assured the public of effective policing of critical national infrastructure, life and property at all times “but especially during the approaching yuletide”.
“The command has strengthened its concrete and proactive policing strategies predicated on visible foot and vehicular patrols.
“Members of the public are advised to be more security conscious as it concerns government installations and report any suspicious act to the police,” he added.
