Police arrest illegal arms dealer

Owerri - The Imo Police Command on Wednesday said it had arrested a suspected illegal firearms dealer in Udume Ogwa, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was arrested while negotiating the sale of a pump action rifle to a prospective buyer.

The Police Commissioner in the state, Musa Katsina, said 13 pump action rifles, assorted rifle parts, 750 live cartridges and a carton of security torch lights were recovered from the suspect.

The commissioner also said that a bullet proof jacket with the inscription "Nigeria Police" and the initials of the Police Commissioner were recovered from the suspect.

Katsina said the suspect had said during interrogation that he was working for his uncle.

The command also arrested four students of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, for allegedly kidnapping of one Anthony Enoh, a student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

The suspects were arrested while trying to collect ransom from the family of their victim.

The commissioner said the suspects would be charged to court soon.
