Police arrests 3 in Kano for allegedly killing student

Kano - The Kano Police Command on Monday says it has arrested three suspects for allegedly killing a student of Federal University of Education, Kano.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Majiya, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the development.

According to Majiya, the late student, Bashir Shehu, age 27, was on group discussion with his colleagues at Rumfa College, Kano, on Thursday, when a gang of notorious youths (Yan daba) attacked them with dangerous weapons.

"They inflicted various degrees of injuries on his head, chest and all over his body. They also broke his leg and abandoned him in pool of blood where he was later confirmed dead,” he said.

"The gang further went on rampage and attacked a mechanic workshop at Gandun Albasa and damaged 30 vehicles,” the police spokes person said.

He said the suspects confessed their offence and mentioned 13 other members of the gang who carried out the attack.

The command said it had declared the other suspects wanted, advising the public to disclose their where about.

Also, the spokesman said the command recently arrested 100 suspects that allegedly terrorised Kano metropolis.

According to him, the suspects who were arrested with a large quantity of weapons and drugs were charged to various courts for prosecution.

Majiya added that 88 of them have been convicted from six months to one year imprisonment, while the other 12 were awaiting trial.

"Over the weekend, 38 suspects were also arrested with weaponry exhibits at different locations, and they would also be charged to court very soon,” he assured.

The police also enjoined the people of Kano to pray for peace and progress in the state and the country at large.
