Abuja - Nigerian soldiers have rescued seven pregnant teenage girls at an illegal baby delivery centre in Umuagu in the Obingwa Local Government Area.
The girls, who were rescued during a raid, were awaiting the delivery of their babies, who would allegedly be sold thereafter.
The girls claimed they had been paid N50 000 ($500) by a woman referred to as Onyemachi.
The soldiers said the suspect, who is believed to be the operator of the home, is now at large.
Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Women Affairs, Nnenna Chikezie thanked the soldiers for acting swiftly in their mission to rescue the girls.
She said the raid followed a report made by a family member of the alleged owner of the illegal centre.
Chikezie said the rescued seven would be reunited with their families soon.
