Arrest of Boko Haram topshot confirmed

16 January 2013, 07:38

Gombe - The Police in Gombe said on Tuesday that they have arrested a suspected Boko Haram topshot, Salisu Mohammed.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Mr. Mohammed Sule, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Gombe, said that Mohammed had spearheaded various attacks in the state.

He said that Mohammed was arrested on Tuesday with gunshot wounds and that he had confessed to several killings in the state.

"Fortunately, one of the notorious bandits we were looking for has been arrested today with gunshot wounds.

"His name is Salisu Mohammed. He is a topshot of the Boko Haram in Gombe.

"He has confessed to several atrocities and killings, even the last killings of military men.

"He confessed to so many things and we are working on them.

"Even those who ambushed my men the other time, he confessed the person who masterminded it and that he knows most of these people because he is their leader.''

According to him, the Police have launched a manhunt for his accomplices.

"Their bones have been broken and by the time we finish, they will all disappear."

The commissioner further said that the Police arrested more than 60 hoodlums two days ago in its effort to curb crime in the state.

According to him, they were arraigned in court on Tuesday for various crimes.

The commissioner reassured the people of the state that the Police was determined to curb crime and appealed to them to volunteer information to the Force.
