Police dispels bomb explosion rumour in Abakaliki

26 December 2013, 09:09

Abuja - The Police Public Relations Officer, Chris Anyanwu on Tuesday dispelled a rumour of a bomb explosion in Abakaliki.

He said that its bomb disposal unit near an old generation bank in Abakaliki discovered a black jelly substance in a 25 litre Jerry can.

Anyanwu, who gave description of the substance, maintained that it was not an improvised explosive device.

He also dismissed rumour of insecurity in the Ezillo axis of Abakaliki-Enugu expressway and enjoined motorists to go about their lawful business without fear.

A resident, Pastor Emmanuel Okoro, described incident as unfortunate and disturbing, especially now that the people were carrying out final preparation to celebrate the Christmas.

A trader at the scene, Mary Ugwu said that she was scared to death when she heard it was a bomb.

"I was really shocked because I taught it was boko haram people and I wondered how such could happen in Abakaliki.

"My brother it was not a joke," she said. (NAN)
